Finally something to do with the soda can tabs I pop off all the time, the “Do It Yourself Picture Hanger“. The Make Projects site has more details on how to get the job done.

This is a simple but great idea.

On Your Mark

On Your Mark

Here are the rest of the pics from the June 4th, 2011, Manhattan Mayhem vs Queens of Pain Roller Derby Bout.

Queens of Pain defeated Manhattan Mayhem 184 to 76. I still thought there were a lot of great plays.

Derby’s awesome!

Here are some videos from last night’s Manhattan Mayhem vs Queens of Pain (June 5th, 2011) bout featuring Bonita Apple Bomb, Suzy Hotrod and Brazilian Nut.

It was a great night in Gotham.

America started as a place people went to escape something worse, remember? lol.

America is awesome! Politicians controlled by corporations, now that is not so awesome. Where can we run to escape the tiranical hold of big business? Or do you think we should try to take our country back?

Big Business are the real terrorists.

Day 139 - Life Cafe

Life Cafe Brooklyn

I am not going repeat what I already wrote here. A quick synopsis, starting August 1st, 2010 I will publish a picture I take that day everyday for a year (well to be exact I will do this everyday until July 31st, 2011). This is the 139th of those photographs. Also, there is a Flickr collection called “The Awesome Leftovers” where I put the daily shots (if any) that didn’t make the cut.

Why I Didn’t

Of course.
I was going to, you know.
Or maybe you didn’t.

Already my mouth gone soft
when you kissed me good night
and let me go.

But instead of love
there was only an old sleeping bag
you tossed at me and three
flea bites on my belly
the next morning.
You didn’t know that,
did you?

I didn’t think so.

Nor your name I stole
and took with me
all the way from San Antonio
to Puerto Escondido.

And today when I waited
for your pickup to appear,
I’ll be right back, and left me there
on your porch full of suitcases and
crates and saws and cedar,

I went into your room
and lay down on your bed
just to see if it’d suit me.
The sheets were cool
and a fine talc of dust lay everywhere
the way some men who live alone
are used to living.

Oh I’m scared all right
Haven’t you noticed, I’m
only shy when I like a man.
And to tell the truth
I’m not sure love is worth
the risk of losing friendship.

It would’ve been easy.
I could’ve claimed
I was afraid of the dark.
I am, you know. Afraid I mean.

But there was that plane
to catch the next morning.
And you had to go to work.

Besides, I was sleepy.
And love, that fish too old to get away,
will be there the next morning. And if not,
there are other mornings, other fish.

Oh love you’re so crazy…

Day 135 - Snowflake

Day 135 - Snowflake

I am not going repeat what I already wrote here. A quick synopsis, starting August 1st, 2010 I will publish a picture I take that day everyday for a year (well to be exact I will do this everyday until July 31st, 2011). This is the 135th of those photographs. Also, there is a Flickr collection called “The Awesome Leftovers” where I put the daily shots (if any) that didn’t make the cut.

Denise and I were walking one night and it started to lightly snow. I looked down and on my coat there was the most perfect snowflake, it seemed unreal. Neither of us had ever seen snowflakes like that in the entirety of our lives. We didn’t believe it until another perfect snowflake landed next to the first. This picture is of that second snowflake. They were so beautiful. It was like magic…

That was the first time Denise and I experienced snow together.

The EPOC headset and Tan Le are super fly.  In just a few years I imagine the headset will be minute, hidden from vision. I will walk into a room and control it with my mind.

Watch out world…

-Cara

I’ve watched this two days in a row. I wasn’t going to post it as it makes me vulnerable and I worry what people think, then I thought to myself, but it is really awesome. Brené Brown is too awesome and intelligent to hide away. She gives people an important piece of the puzzle to understanding how to live a better life. That sounds soooo that way I know, but it is true, so deal with it.

Watch it, you have nothing to lose and if you hate it you can just let me have it…but I don’t think you will. :]

-Cara

Clemmy and I were hanging out one night at the Brooklyn Bowl talking about life, love, etc. I was telling her I remembered when I was younger hearing this story of the mythology of love. The way I heard it was originally the Gods created people in twos. They were put together as one in three different ways, two women, two men, and a man and a woman. They were so happy and fulfilled with each other they cared nothing for the Gods that had created them. This infuriated Zeus so much so, that he sent lightning bolts down separating them from one another.

Afterwords, the Gods sent hurricanes, floods and fierce winds to blow humans away from themselves. Aphrodite, seeing their sadness and loss, felt so sorry for them she connected their souls with the memory of the other. This search then outweighed all else. Zeus, displeased again, erased the memory of the other half of their soul, but he could not erase the longing. That longing is love.

We instinctively continue to search for the one who our love belongs to and most make mistakes along the way. The one thing is, our soul never does. It never will.

You know the story.

-Cara

P.S. – After I told Clemmy this she asked me if I knew about that song by Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Origin of Love. Which I had not, so she sent me the link to this video above, which I think is super fresh and inspired this entry, so thanks Clemmy. :]

Kathleen Hanna

This is a re-write 3 days later.

Kathleen Hanna seems cool. I don’t know her, but I loved the last video in this post of her at Joe’s Pub. It pushed me to become mini obsessed with her over the last week. That might not seem like a long time for most people, but for an obsessive Aquarius like myself it is enough time to form a 100 page hypothesis on this observable phenomenon.

I edited this post 3 days later. Someone rated the post 1 star which means they thought it sucked ass. Which it did! This might not be any better, but they are my words. I don’t care about the one star per se, but if I am going to get it I want it to be for my words, not “facts” I found on this world wide web. That’s reduncqulous. :]

On with the show!

This video is from when Kathleen was with Bikini Kill.

She released a solo album under the name Julie Ruin in 1998.

She then went live as the lead singer for Le Tigre in the late 1990s.

This last video is about how Hanna’s drunken tagging of Kurt Cobain’s apartment inspired the name for Nirvana’s single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. It’s preformed at Our Hit Parade staring, Kathleen Hanna, Kenny Mellman, Carmine Covelli, Mike Jackson and Mr. Adam Horovitz. They also did Bikini Kill’s “Rebel Girl”. :]

12-15-2010 at Joe’s Pub in NYC.

It is pretty awesome. Kathleen Hanna is super fresh.

This is the 85th of those photographs. Also, there is a Flickr collection called “The Awesome Leftovers” where I put the daily shots (if any) that didn’t make the cut.

This shot is of a woman at the Queers United In Response March in Brooklyn on Sunday. Sunday was a crazy day, there was the March, running around with Denise taking some shots for Be Nice, then hanging out with everyone (Renee, Chavisa, Sabrina and Al) at the Miss Lez Pageant 2010, then the Metropolitan and last but not least the break of dawn feta cheese omelet. I love this town. Check out the rest of the pictures, Day 85 – A Long Day Into Night.

They’re pretty hot.

I am not going repeat what I already wrote here. A quick synopsis, starting August 1st, 2010 I will publish a picture I take that day everyday for a year (well to be exact I will do this everyday until July 31st, 2011). This is the 84th of those photographs. Also, there is a Flickr collection called “The Awesome Leftovers” where I put the daily shots (if any) that didn’t make the cut.

Again, I am doing some self promotion. This is an amazing reprint of Robot Girl and watch out world, she’s bigger and better than ever before. That’s right, I said it. You too can have your very own organic cotton, made in Manhattan by my very own hands, inspired by my very own mind, super soft for only $25 dollars t- shirt. Here’s where you can find her amongst other cute tees.

Rock the robot.

-Cara

Here’s what the person who did this video has to say…

This is a performance meant to entertain and inspire.

If you want to help…

http://www.squidoo.com/help-the-homeless-for-free

As I said this is a performance. I don’t want there to be any doubts about my situation. I am a performer. I have a roof over my head and I have yet to start my own family. But this video isn’t about me. This is for the men, women and children on our streets who don’t have bright green puppets on their hands. The people who aren’t always as easy to see. This is for you.

Look around and see there are good people out there.

See.

Day 57 - Homosapien Friendly

Homosapien Friendly

I am not going repeat what I already wrote here. A quick synopsis, starting August 1st, 2010 I will publish a picture I take that day everyday for a year (well to be exact I will do this everyday until July 31st, 2011). This is the 57th of those photographs. Also, there is a Flickr collection called “The Awesome Leftovers” where I put the daily shots (if any) that didn’t make the cut.

Today’s photo of the day is an obvious bit of self promotion for Be Nice, my organic cotton, hand printed, unique designs t-shirt business. I printed up two new designs for Be Nice this last weekend. One being Homosapien Friendly, a design by Marine Boudeau, which is today’s picture of the day. The second new addition to Be Nice’s repertoire is Who Stars, a design by me, Cara Reynolds. There are also the two slightly altered-for-the-better tees, Binary Queer and Wind Turbines. To check out all these new additions go to Day 57 – Be Nice.

You may pre-order the new designs if you so desire. :] Please send an e-mail to info[at]ubenice[dot]com for this special promotion before they are released on the site to all. Be Nice shirts are only $25. Send the email and we’ll get the ball rolling on delivering your new, soft, hand printed, organic cotton, super fly tee to you asap.

Much love.

I am not going repeat what I already wrote here. A quick synopsis, starting August 1st, 2010 I will publish a picture I take that day everyday for a year (well to be exact I will do this everyday until July 31st, 2011). This is the 42nd of those photographs. Also, there is a Flickr collection called “The Awesome Leftovers” where I put the daily shots (if any) that didn’t make the cut.

A first today there are two photos. Brooklyn Bombshells vs. Manhattan Mayhem, Brooklyn took Manhattan to town, the final score, 125 to 80. Brooklyn played very well. Anyway, I thought both teams deserved a shot of the day.

We’ll start with Brooklyn Bombshells. This photo is of Hard Anya (i4i) stretching before the bout.

Vice Hard Anya

Vice Hard Anya

The next shot is of Miss American Thighs (76) of Manhattan Mayhem also stretching before the game.

Miss American Thighs

Miss American Thighs

I love roller derby. Anyway, most of the photographs are not action shots unfortunately. I was trying out some new settings during the jams. I wanted to to see if I could capture the movement of the skaters with less blur.  At least a focus somewhere in all the fury, but tragically most of the shots turned out too grainy.

Here’s the rest of the shots from that night that turned out, Day 42 – I Love Roller Derby.

I realize the date is an important one to remember as well, bigger than all this. Maybe that is another reason two seems fitting, though honestly it just came to me while I was typing here. I am not usually like this, but that day I remember and give my respects to what it is and was.

What a nice night.

Good morning love…

I look and see it’s beautiful out.

That’s right… I can not get enough of roller derby. I think I finally understand what it means to be a sport’s fan. This is great!

Anyway, here is one of the videos I shot from that night (Saturday, August 7th, 2010, Queens of Pain vs. Bronx Gridlock). It was so fresh. I recommend it to all, but I don’t want it to become too popular and get ruined… a conundrum. :\  Oh world!

I have the rest in any format you may want to use… I love them all!

I went with friends to watch some Gotham Girls Roller Derby on Saturday. Two 30 minute bouts of Queens of Pain vs. Bronx Gridlock.  It was as usual amazing. Today’s picture is of Suzy Hotrod, from Queens of Pain killin’ it.

:]

-Cara

July was interesting. I’ve learned a great deal in this particular month. A lot of change has occurred in my life recently. Well, really everything changed. In a good way, but also a little surreal and sad, as loss always is. Well unless you lose cancer or any other deadly aliment, or a stalker, or a wart, etc, so I guess not all loss is sad, just sometimes. This loss though was.

Here’s some back story. I moved to New York City in May of 1999, which by the way doesn’t seem that long ago. I think that may be because I rarely remember the bad times. Meaning time seems much shorter than reality. No harm there. :] I also like to go on tangents as you see. Okay, I left Chicago in ’99 as it was time for me to leave (quite a fascinating story for another time), and I have now lived in NYC for eleven years and some change. For about ten of those years I was in a total of two long term relationships, with really no time in between. This, if you knew me before in Chicago, is a crazy concept. This phenomenon occurred after my first year here which consisted of a string of women, friends up for anything and a lot of sleepless nights. NYC and I had a torrid affair that first year and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Now suddenly and ironically on the anniversary of my 11th year in this crazy town I call home I am on my own again. It been almost three months now (in three days on the third…threes follow me everywhere), and I am still in this hazy fog that’s just beginning to thin out. Things are changing faster than usual. I don’t mind that. I would hate to stay the same or become someone I once was. I am just curious to how this is going to play out in the next few months…year…years…, not scared, but excited. I like to be interested in things, especially when it is my life.

I was thinking of ideas to help me clear out of the rest of this haze. I need a focus of some sort so I don’t get lost in the chaos. Something new to do. Here is what I came up with, starting August 1st, 2010 I will publish a picture I take that day everyday for a year (well to be exact I will do this everyday until July 31st, 2011). It won’t be my only posts of course, just a continuous one. I like/need things like this. I’m also interested to what the culmination of all these pictures will say after that year.

That’s all.

-Cara

Nice.
