3rd Annual NYC Fun-A-Day

I’m starting this today if anyone else wants to! It is going to be awesome like 2012. You create some form of art everyday for the month of February, drawing, diorama, collage, stuffed animal, something!

Then, at the end of the month you bring your art to the Fun-A-Day show. If you make something and can bring it to the show do it or if your art is more ideological bring some sort of documentation, pictures, spoken word, modern dance, whatever. Rumor is, “there will be space to hang you presentations and slots for your live performances”.

This is the third Fun-A-Day in New York.

Boom!

“Back in July of 1975 we descended into a trough between some whales, and we just sat there in this boat really transfixed. As a whale rolled about on the surface I caught his eye and he looked straight at us and I saw understanding. I saw that the whale understood what we were trying to do, but the other thing I saw in that eye was pity, and not for himself or his kind, but for us. At that moment a harpoon went over our heads and slammed into the backside of one of the females in the pod, and she screamed and rolled on her side. It was like a woman screaming. I said “well, here we are destroying this incredibly intelligent, socially complex, beautiful creature.” and that’s when it occurred to me: we’re insane. As a species we’re insane, so quite frankly, I don’t really care what people think about what we do. They can criticize us all they want, but their opinions mean nothing to me.”

-Paul Watson, of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

The average are the most insane. Don’t get lost in normal.

They have all sorts of cool stuff like a record that sounds like rain and never ends…snowballs…old pencils, a million different colored tapes, notebooks, string calendars… You must go check out these super fly, little, strange artifacts in this store. The owner, Nina Allen, also has a wholesale company Sweet Bella. I love the telephones! A lot of the stuff on the site is sold in the brick and mortar shop.

Here’s the rest of the shots, including some cute vegan shoes from MooShoesDay 141 – Marine and I LES.

Why I Didn’t

Of course.
I was going to, you know.
Or maybe you didn’t.

Already my mouth gone soft
when you kissed me good night
and let me go.

But instead of love
there was only an old sleeping bag
you tossed at me and three
flea bites on my belly
the next morning.
You didn’t know that,
did you?

I didn’t think so.

Nor your name I stole
and took with me
all the way from San Antonio
to Puerto Escondido.

And today when I waited
for your pickup to appear,
I’ll be right back, and left me there
on your porch full of suitcases and
crates and saws and cedar,

I went into your room
and lay down on your bed
just to see if it’d suit me.
The sheets were cool
and a fine talc of dust lay everywhere
the way some men who live alone
are used to living.

Oh I’m scared all right
Haven’t you noticed, I’m
only shy when I like a man.
And to tell the truth
I’m not sure love is worth
the risk of losing friendship.

It would’ve been easy.
I could’ve claimed
I was afraid of the dark.
I am, you know. Afraid I mean.

But there was that plane
to catch the next morning.
And you had to go to work.

Besides, I was sleepy.
And love, that fish too old to get away,
will be there the next morning. And if not,
there are other mornings, other fish.

-Sandra Cisneros

Oh love you’re so crazy…

Denise and I were walking one night and it started to lightly snow. I looked down and on my coat there was the most perfect snowflake, it seemed unreal. Neither of us had ever seen snowflakes like that in the entirety of our lives. We didn’t believe it until another perfect snowflake landed next to the first. This picture is of that second snowflake. They were so beautiful. It was like magic…

That was the first time Denise and I experienced snow together.

All About Me

I start many things with good intentions, many, many things. This time I intend to stay focused. This time I will not leave behind what I started. This time it is larger and more important than my obsession with Martha Stewart, all design shows, and Teresa Witherspoon. :P This time it is about the greater good...this time I am serious.
