Today’s entry is all about art appreciation, this time through photography. The theme being rain, as it has been raining lately here in New York (I personally wish it was snow). :]
Anyway, I was sent this link of 35 awesome rain photos according to the writer of SmashingMagazine.com. I liked a lot of them, but these are my three favorites.
That’s hot.
When I was a kid in Miami we would swim in the ocean in this kind of rain all the time. The sound of rain falling when you are underwater is an interesting sound and feeling everyone should experience…make sure there is no lightning! :|
Come on!
I love photography that inspires and moves me.

I found this surfing on this world wide web and think it’s a fun idea and a way to interact with humans.
Here are the rules:
- Open your “My Pictures” folder
- Go to the 4th folder
- Then go to the 4th photo in that folder
- Post a comment in this entry with the link to the photo and a small description of what it is about
I like this game because I had no idea what picture I would come across. I must say I was glad it was this one. It is little me in Miami where I was born and raised. My mom made all my snazzy outfits…don’t be jealous. It looks like I am coming up with a plan to help small puppies breakout of some animal testing facility I am sure. :]
Now you.

Babeland is going to think this is some sort of miracle. They sent me some products awhile ago (because of a Valentine’s entry I wrote with them in it) that I said I’d review…fast forward a hundred years later to the first of a few reviews I intend to do for them.
One of these products was the soy wax, chocolate hazelnut, massage candle. I love it. The candle wax, when dripped on your skin, has a soft, smoothness to it. It possesses a sweet, warm, nutty smell. The smell reminds me of growing up in Miami, and the fragrance of the women who surrounded me. When done you are softer and smell sweeter, as do your sheets and your lover’s hands.
As far as the packaging, I say lose the red and orange box (even though it’s cute). Candles already in a glass votive like that don’t need a box I would think, just a cover of a biodegradable film of some sort, if anything. Thus you reduce unnecessary packaging and have more of a sustainable product.
I also like the matches they include with the candle. I think they are more romantic than lighting a candle with a lighter. It made me think, I’m not sure which is worse buying a “disposable lighter”, matches or fluid for a refillable lighter. I say send the matches and counteract it with planting a tree or two every month for all the paper/wood products the company uses. Just an idea.
To wrap up this review, I think the product itself is great and I’m glad to have been introduced to it.
Thanks Babeland.

I remember when I was a kid growing up in Miami my Nana and Papa had the best backyard. In it, to name a few of the million plants, were mangoes, guavas, avocados, papayas, bananas and sea grapes. I remember helping them make guava and sea grape jelly in their small ranch house. We always made less of the sea grape jelly, so it made it more of a treat.
Here is my Nana’s Sea Grape Recipe given to my mom, then given to me.
2 to 3 quarts of sea grapes
8 cups fruit juice from sea grapes
8 1/2 cups sugar
1/3 cup lime juice
Select ripe and partly ripe sea grapes. Wash and place in large pot, add water to not quite cover the fruit. Bring to a boil and soak until tender. Squeeze juice out by hand or strain through jelly bag, then measure juice.
To each 8 cups of juice obtained, add 8 1/2 cups sugar and 1/3 cup lime juice.
Cook to 225 degrees, which will take about 27 minutes. When it reaches the jelly stage, skim and pour into sterile jars and seal. Makes eight 1/2 pound jars.
It’s been a long time since I’ve made sea grape jelly. I need to find some wild sea grapes again.

Want the omega-3s in fish but would rather skip the mercury, PCBs, and dioxins? Well, push aside that fish altogether, and rediscover flax. Two tablespoons of ground flax daily give you all of the essential fatty acid you need with several bonuses: Flax seeds contain iron, zinc, and high-quality protein, plus almost all of the vitamins. They’re loaded with soluble fiber and are the best source anywhere of phytonutrient lignans. They ease symptoms of diabetes and even promote healthy brain growth in utero and in infancy.
