This is an amazing video by Sophie Windsor Clive and Liberty Smith, of a murmuration on the River Shannon in Ireland.
Each fall thousands of starlings, at twilight, gather in magical shape-shifting flocks called murmurations, having migrated by the millions from Russia and Scandinavia to avoid winter’s chill. Scientists have not been able to explain this awe inspiring phenomenon, which rely on the tiny bird’s almost instantaneous reaction time of under 100 milliseconds to avoid aerial collisions and predators in a massive flock.
Despite their show of force in this dusky sky, starlings have declined significantly in the UK in recent years, perhaps because of a drop in nesting sites. Man destroying another beautiful mystery in this world for money.

I am not going repeat what I already wrote here. A quick synopsis, starting August 1st, 2010 I will publish a picture I take that day everyday for a year (well to be exact I will do this everyday until July 31st, 2011). This is the 141st of those photographs. Also, there is a Flickr collection called “The Awesome Leftovers” where I put the daily shots (if any) that didn’t make the cut.
The other day after brunch, Marine and I stumbled into this store called Top Hat across the street from Baby Cakes (an awesome vegan bakery). They have all sorts of cool stuff like a record that sounds like rain and never ends…snowballs…old pencils, a million different colored tapes, notebooks, string calendars… You must go check out these super fly, little, strange artifacts in this store. The owner, Nina Allen, also has a wholesale company Sweet Bella. I love the telephones! A lot of the stuff on the site is sold in the brick and mortar shop.
Here’s the rest of the shots, including some cute vegan shoes from MooShoes, Day 141 – Marine and I LES.

This is a re-write 3 days later.
Kathleen Hanna seems cool. I don’t know her, but I loved the last video in this post of her at Joe’s Pub. It pushed me to become mini obsessed with her over the last week. That might not seem like a long time for most people, but for an obsessive Aquarius like myself it is enough time to form a 100 page hypothesis on this observable phenomenon.
I edited this post 3 days later. Someone rated the post 1 star which means they thought it sucked ass. Which it did! This might not be any better, but they are my words. I don’t care about the one star per se, but if I am going to get it I want it to be for my words, not “facts” I found on this world wide web. That’s reduncqulous. :]
On with the show!
This video is from when Kathleen was with Bikini Kill.
She released a solo album under the name Julie Ruin in 1998.
She then went live as the lead singer for Le Tigre in the late 1990s.
This last video is about how Hanna’s drunken tagging of Kurt Cobain’s apartment inspired the name for Nirvana’s single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. It’s preformed at Our Hit Parade staring, Kathleen Hanna, Kenny Mellman, Carmine Covelli, Mike Jackson and Mr. Adam Horovitz. They also did Bikini Kill’s “Rebel Girl”. :]
12-15-2010 at Joe’s Pub in NYC.
It is pretty awesome. Kathleen Hanna is super fresh.

It has taken me awhile to get to this set. I know it is for a few different reasons. One, I don’t want to think about this Championship being Suzy Hotrod’s last game with Queens of Pain. I mean really? That’s crazy. I am also sad the Ladies of Pain lost as they have always been my favorite team and well, I wanted them to win. Sorry Bronx, I love you, just in a different way. :] Also, strange enough my camera was acting up, so I did not get that many great shots that night. Then it died soon after half-time and the spare re-chargeable batteries needed charging. It was a disaster. Honestly, I did not mind that so much. I could focus more on the game, instead of getting a shot.
Here are the rest of the pictures from that night, Day 91 – Queens of Pain VS. Bronx Gridlock Championship.
It was a great Championship game. I can’t say it enough, I love roller derby. Now that I have some time till I get to watch some more derby maybe I’ll go grab some new skates (my old Pac Mans are near death), and skate around town. I need something to fill the void.
Till next season ladies.

I may not believe in the institution of marriage, but I do believe in fair is fair, everyone deserves the same legal rights. I’m sick of the church and state getting together and saying we can’t be married. I thought they were separate. I am also sick of adulterers saying I am attacking the institution of marriage.
Fuck that.

Mary Slayne of the Providence Pidgeons is today’s pick. The Pigeons need some love. They came into Gotham to play the Bombshells with only eleven players to Brooklyn’s sixteen players I think it was. 202-20 was the final score. Brooklyn killed it. It was Hard Anya’s and game MVP Demonica Mars’s last game with the Brooklyn Bombshells. That’s sad. I especially love watching Hard Anya skate. She’s amazing.

Today’s photo of the day is an obvious bit of self promotion for Be Nice, my organic cotton, hand printed, unique designs t-shirt business. I printed up two new designs for Be Nice this last weekend. One being Homosapien Friendly, a design by Marine Boudeau, which is today’s picture of the day. The second new addition to Be Nice’s repertoire is Who Stars, a design by me, Cara Reynolds. There are also the two slightly altered-for-the-better tees, Binary Queer and Wind Turbines. To check out all these new additions go to Day 57 – Be Nice.
You may pre-order the new designs if you so desire. :] Please send an e-mail to info[at]ubenice[dot]com for this special promotion before they are released on the site to all. Be Nice shirts are only $25. Send the email and we’ll get the ball rolling on delivering your new, soft, hand printed, organic cotton, super fly tee to you asap.
Much love.

A first today there are two photos. Brooklyn Bombshells vs. Manhattan Mayhem, Brooklyn took Manhattan to town, the final score, 125 to 80. Brooklyn played very well. Anyway, I thought both teams deserved a shot of the day.
We’ll start with Brooklyn Bombshells. This photo is of Hard Anya (i4i) stretching before the bout.
The next shot is of Miss American Thighs (76) of Manhattan Mayhem also stretching before the game.
I love roller derby. Anyway, most of the photographs are not action shots unfortunately. I was trying out some new settings during the jams. I wanted to to see if I could capture the movement of the skaters with less blur. At least a focus somewhere in all the fury, but tragically most of the shots turned out too grainy.
Here’s the rest of the shots from that night that turned out, Day 42 – I Love Roller Derby.
I realize the date is an important one to remember as well, bigger than all this. Maybe that is another reason two seems fitting, though honestly it just came to me while I was typing here. I am not usually like this, but that day I remember and give my respects to what it is and was.

I am not in love with any of the shots I took today or I should say I am unsure of my love for them. This is the first time I have felt this way during the year in pictures. I won’t be too dramatic since I just started, but… :] I need to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future. I personally like this picture because they are my friends and this is them, but structurally I am just not sure I feel it. I don’t know. Maybe I love it… :D
Here are the extras, Day 20 – Blah.

That’s right… I can not get enough of roller derby. I think I finally understand what it means to be a sport’s fan. This is great!
Anyway, here is one of the videos I shot from that night (Saturday, August 7th, 2010, Queens of Pain vs. Bronx Gridlock). It was so fresh. I recommend it to all, but I don’t want it to become too popular and get ruined… a conundrum. :\ Oh world!
I have the rest in any format you may want to use… I love them all!
Enough, enjoy the show!
